At Grandma’s Choice In-Home Care, understanding isn’t an afterthought. It’s at the heart of everything we do. With over 16 years of hands-on caregiving and administrative experience, our leadership team has heard one message again and again from families in Oregon: “What’s missing isn’t care, it’s genuine understanding of the elder experience.”
That insight inspired our mission and our model of care, shaped in part by the perspective of our Administrator “Grandma Shirleen”. At 70 years old, and the youngest of nine siblings, Shirleen has lived the family aging journey herself. She understands the importance of dignity, independence and compassionate care.
The spark to create Grandma’s Choice came from Shirleen’s granddaughter, Ashley, whose heartfelt wish was simple: that her own grandmother – and every senior – could receive the same kind of care she would lovingly provide herself. That wish became our standard: care guided by understanding, compassion and respect for every life story.
Through our Elder Culture Training, our caregivers learn not just how to assist, but why traditions, routines, and perspectives matter. This deeper understanding transforms care into connection, creating that genuine “at home” feeling that defines exceptional in-home care for seniors. Our clients feel seen, respected, and valued. Our leaders personally oversee caregiver training, provide ongoing coaching, and conduct regular quality checks in the home. We stay closely connected to both caregivers and families, making sure the support we deliver truly reflects the standards we promise. This hand-on approach ensures that care isn’t just provided, it’s continually improved, so families can feel confident their loved one is receiving compassionate, reliable support day after day. This company was born from a vision shared by not just two people with the experience needed, but at the dinner table while Grandmother and Granddaughter shared dinner and our vision of a more personal, family-like care setting that you can truly trust and look forward to each day.
